Changing Car Tyres
One of the ways to being safe on the road is developing the ability to do some basic car repairs during emergencies. Along this line, you should be able to know how to change your car tyres, among other things.
When running with a flat, pull over to a safer place of the road and apply your parking brake. You need a solid, level surface to change the tyre. Locate your spare tyre, wrench, and jack, as well as turn on your emergency flashers. Remove the rim cover, if there is any, and loosen (do not remove) the lugs in a star motion. Find the area where you can safely place the jack and elevate the vehicle. Engage the jack to make ample room to remove and replace the tyre. Once the car is properly elevated, twist and remove the lugs. Remove the flat tyre and replace it with the spare one. Hand-tight the lugs onto the rim, making sure that the tyre is in place as evenly as possible. Afterwards, you can lower your car by releasing the jack. Next, tighten the lugs as evenly as possible in a star formation. Gather your tools and store them properly inside your tool box.
Changing tyres can get your hands greasy and dirty. However, knowing how to do it will help you overcome the dreaded scenario of getting helplessly stuck in the road with a flat. Whether you are stuck in the middle of a busy street or left alone in a deserted highway, your ability to do basic car repairs can spell the difference between danger and safety.
