All about Ear Care
Noise can be everywhere. In fact, some people may not be aware of the fact that listening to very loud music is already considered harmful noise. The ears are important parts of the body, which should be properly cared for. You should take good care of you inner and outer ears as much as you can to protect them from damage, infection, and hearing loss.
Part of ear care is staying away from noisy engines, as well as avoiding listening to loud music. Thus, you should limit your use of headphones and turn down the volume. Race tracks, firing ranges, rock concerts, and construction sites are some of the noisy places you should avoid. If you choose to go anyway, at least wear protective plugs to reduce noise levels. Also, wear hearing protection when mowing the lawn. Remember, noise-related hearing damage can only be soothed not cured.
If you engage in contact sports, put on headgear because repetitive blows to the outer ear can damage or deform the cartilage. If you want to have piercings, do so carefully. An infection can cause permanent damage to your outer ear. When you need to clean your ears, use a washcloth-covered finger or cotton buds. Never put anything too far inside your ears. Earwax is your ear's way of protecting itself by trapping and preventing foreign objects from getting into the ear canal. It is safer to use few drops of earwax remover or hydrogen peroxide and flush the ear with a rubber bulb and tepid water after. If you suffer an earache, see a doctor. Have respiratory illnesses treated immediately to avoid infection from spreading to your ears.
